Farmer's Market Says 'Goodbye Berries'

As berry season ends, an equally sweet and delicious fruit will make its way into the farmer's market.

Market goers have quite the treat in store this Sunday, with live jazz music, face painting and loads of ripe veggies.

This Sunday will be one of the last times that the array of fresh berries that normally grace the market's stands will be available, but patrons can expect an equally sweet and delicious fruit to take their place: apples.

The market will have veggies galore, with purslane, onions, heirloom spinach and potatoes provided by Heirloom Organics, and Terra Boa Farms will also have their heirloom and traditional canning tomatoes on display, according to Market Coordinator Catalina Ventura.

"They are a beautiful Roma-shaped fruit ideal for preserving," Ventura said. "David [of Terra Boa] also has the most beautiful and delicious delicata squash, and if you ask him, he will happily share his favorite recipe for all of his produce."

Garlic from Miramonte Farms will also be on the scene, which Ventura describes as "sticky, crisp and delicious".

Feather extensions will also be available for the fashionists, providing a fun and trendy accompaniment to most hairdos.

The farmer's market takes place Sunday, from 10 a.m–2 p.m., and is located at 7341 Monterey St.
