Gavilan Employee Mixes Culture With Latest Trends

Oralis Magana likes to keep her appearance professional while at work, with Mexican accessories to spice up her ensemble.

Oralis Magana works at and describes her style as professional and cultured. She finds elements of fashion in her Mexican heritage and uses these to accessorize her worker-bee wardrobe.

Gilroy Patch caught up with her and asked a few fashion questions.

Gilroy Patch: How would you describe your look today?

Oralis Magana: I'm wearing a rebozo [shawl] that I got from Chihuahua, from a trip I took last December. We went to help the Tahumaras Indians that live there. The indigenous population makes these rebozos, and I bought one from the store there in Chihuahua. The Indians are known for running, barefoot. I am also wearing a dress from Target. These are Nine West boots, and the leggings are probably from Walmart. The ring I got from Charlotte Russe.

Patch: Where do you like to shop?

Magana: I shop anywhere online, the outlets, the mall, wherever I see something I like.

Patch: What about your fashion sets you apart?

Magana: What I try to do with my style is incorporate my culture, like the rebozo; a lot of women use this. I come from a village in Mexico; the closest town is Morelia. A lot of those women braid their hair. I try to do that sometimes.

Patch: Is your hair a part of your fashion statement?

Magana: I always do different things with my hair: curly, straight and braided.

Patch: Do you have any celebrity fashion inspirations?

Magana: I look up to the styles of Jennifer Aniston. And I don’t like the Kardashians, but I like Kourtney's style. She is the short one, right?

Patch: What about the camera? Is that a part of your normal wardrobe?

Magana: This camera is a new thing. I have a lot of hobbies. This is a new one. I am on my lunch break taking photos. It is quiet on Friday, not a lot of students; it’s a nice time to hike or take photos.

Patch: Do your coworkers ever say anything about your style?

Magana: I guess I get a lot of compliments on my fashion, like, “you are such a fashionista,” or, “you’re so cute.” I try to have some professionalism, but a little bit of current style.
