Get Out in Gilroy: Coffee With the Mayor and a Petting Zoo at Gilroy Gardens

The annual Renaissance Fair in Casa de Fruta, a Birding Festival in Watsonville and the monthly coffee date with the Mayor are all part of the activities.

Where/When: Gilroy Gardens, 3050 Hecker Pass Hwy., from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ongoing until Sept. 25.

Why Go: Miniature goats, ducks, chickens and pigs will be on display, and mini and medium sized ponies will be available for your child's first trail ride. Additional charges apply for pony rides and the petting zoo.

Where/When: 275 Main St. in Watsonville. Thursday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: The Monterey Bay Birding Festival draws international, national and local birders. The annual festival features full-day, half-day and expert-led field trips, as well as workshops. Guest speakers are featured nightly, and Family Day packages at the Wetlands of Watsonville Nature Center are also available. Check out the festival for specialized birding activities catered toward beginners, and outings led by a bilingual birding expert.

Where/When: Casa de Fruta, 10031 Pacheco Pass Hwy. in Hollister. Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: Join the villagers of Willingtown as they celebrate Bacchanal and the traditional feast of Michelmas. This weekend is a visual treat as garlands and masks are worn by men and women. Patrons are encouraged to wear a mask and/or garland. A beautiful selection of both can be found at the fair, and guests also have the choice to have a mask painted on. Each weekend provides a new adventure, so don't miss out on all the mischief and fun to be had!

Pricing: $25 general admission. $35 for a weekend pass. 

Where/When: , 7400 Monterey St. in Gilroy.  Friday, from 8–10 p.m. Potential attendees are encouraged to make a reservation for dinner downstairs before the show. Call 408 842-2095 to reserve seating.

Why Go: Limelight Actors Theater and Gilroy's Downtown Theater are returning to Lizarran Tapas Restaurant to showcase the production of  The MOMologues: The Original Comedy about Motherhood. A hysterical, and at times poignant, comedy offering an honest and funny look at motherhood. Follow the journey of four mothers and their experiences with the first chapters of motherhood—attempts of conception, pregnancy, labor and delivery, and adjusting to life with a newborn.

Pricing: $18

Where/When: 7351 Rosanna St., in the Gilroy City Hall Council Chambers. Saturday at 9:30 a.m. 

Why Go: The informal event allows Gilroy residents some one-on-one time with the mayor, allowing them to discuss city issues and broader topics as well. Don't miss a chance to meet one of your city's leaders this weekend!
