Gilroy Salvation Army Short on Christmas Toys, Needs Donations

The local organization is 250 toys short of its goal and especially needs toys for girls ages 3-7.

The Salvation Army in Gilroy set a holiday goal of distributing 1,000 toys to local kids on Christmas, but with just a few days left before the big giveaway, the group is still 250 toys short.

“The shortage only tells us that there is an increasing need around the community,” said Captain Demetrio Villarreal. “We are reaching out to our community’s kind hearts to help us spread the holiday cheer with our neighbors in need.”

Not a single toy was donated over the weekend, Public Relations Director Laine Hendricks told Gilroy Patch. One person did call to ask about donating, but so far donations have been stagnant since late last week, Hendricks said.
