Last Chance: Apply for a Chamber of Commerce Scholarship

With the month of May flying by and graduation fast approaching, it's understandable if high school seniors are thinking more about prom and summer vacation than scholarships to help pay for things like, you know, college textbooks.

Thankfully, they still have a chance to win a good chunk of change and boost their resumes with a scholarship.

The chamber is offering three scholarships totaling $2,000 to qualified high school seniors graduating in 2012 and entering their first year of college in the fall of this year, but the deadline is this Friday, May 11.

The scholarships, for which students can only apply for one, are:

The Bill Lindsteadt Memorial Scholarship—$1,000

The Business & Education Scholarship—$500

The Vocational Education Scholarship—$500

To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be living in and/or qualified to attend school within the
• Have an excellent record of experience in community and extracurricular activities
• Have career goals in business, industry, education or vocation
• Graduate high school June, 2012 and meet the minimum GPA requirements for the last two years

Applications must be mailed in or delivered to the chamber by Friday at 5 p.m.

Application packets can be obtained by calling the chamber at (408) 842-6437 or online.

A high school transcript, a one-page essay and three completed recommendation forms—one from a high school instructor and two from outside the school system—must be included with the application, so get on these ASAP if you are interested in applying.
