Outlet Employee Polishes the 'Laid-Back' Look

Jacob Torres, 18, shops far and wide to perfect his laid-back style.

Eighteen-year-old Jacob Torres lives in San Jose, works in Gilroy and goes to school in San Francisco—and he is sharing his far-reaching fashion wisdom with us.

Gilroy Patch caught up with him and asked a few fashion questions.

Gilroy Patch: How would you describe your style?

Torres: I don’t know, it's just kind of like relaxed. I just got dressed to hang out with some people for Easter. Just simple.

Patch: Can you describe what you are wearing today?

Torres: I got these shoes at Urban (Outfitters). These jeans I got at Wasteland in San Francisco; they’re April 22’s. My belt I believe is Calvin Klein, I’m not sure ... I got it from my dad. My shirt is Levi’s, and I believe I got it from Salvation Army or something like that. I’m also wearing an American Apparel hoodie, and this blazer is thrifted, Country Glen. I believe I got this one at Black and Brown. This watch is actually Target, surprisingly, but it’s really cool. My friend got these bracelets from Mexico. My hat: I have no idea where I got it, thrifted probably.

Patch: How do you dress, typically?

Torres: I basically dress in a button up and a blazer. It looks good, and it’s really easy to do. I don’t know; I like it. I just kind of pick out what I really like, mostly while I am thrifting.

Patch: Do you have a favorite fashion accessory?

Torres: I have this really cool big fur rabbit hat, and it’s really cool. It’s like black rabbit fur, and it has the flaps that you can tie on the top of your friend. One of my old friends got it for me in Thailand. It’s so soft.

Patch: Where do you like to shop?

Torres: I go to Saver’s a lot. And Moon Zoom is pretty cool. And Black and Brown is pretty cool, too, but it is just a little bit pricey. They have a really good selection of stuff at the new location. And they always have good shoes; it’s the best place to buy shoes. But I always have good luck buying shoes at Saver’s, because I wear a 9-10, and it’s a very universal size.

Patch: Do you friends dress similarly to you?

Torres: Yeah, my roommate, we share a wardrobe, so we basically have the same style, because we are the same exact size, so it’s pretty cool.

Patch: Do you see a difference between Gilroy, San Jose and San Francisco style?

Torres: It’s huge, yeah; it’s dramatic. I lived in San Francisco for awhile, and it’s like you can wear whatever you want, and then you come here, and it’s, like, you can’t really wear so much, as much as you would want to wear. San Jose is more in-between, but most of the time I don’t really care, because people don’t really trip or anything. People are cool in San Jose.
