Readers' Choice: Best Place to Grab BBQ for Memorial Day

You get to pick: Where's the best place around town to get some barbecue for Memorial Day?

In this week's Readers' Choice poll, we're looking for the best local place to get barbecue for Memorial Day. Whether you're staying right here in Gilroy or perhaps trekking to a neighboring town, where do you like to go to get your 'cue on?

Here are some Gilroy BBQ joints that come to mind, but let us know in the comments if we're forgetting your fave place and we'll add it to the list:

Some finger-lickin' out-of-town BBQers include Maverick BBQ Restaurant Lounge in Hollister, L & L Hawaiian Barbeque in San Jose and Aptos St. Barbeque

Rate these businesses by taking our poll, and let your favorite BBQ joint know why you love 'em by posting in the comments section.

If you know of a piquant pit located nearby, you can vote for it at Watsonville PatchCampbell Patch or Cupertino Patch.

The winner of this poll will be determined using a point system based on the most verified votes together with the best ratings in each business' directory listings. If there’s a tie, the business with the highest number of positive reviews in the listings and comments in the Readers' Choice article will be declared the winner.

Voting results posted in real time shall not be deemed official until Patch has reviewed and confirmed all of the votes.

Voting is open until 9 a.m. Friday and the winner, announced around noon, will receive a "Readers' Choice 2012" certificate.

So, which one is it going to be? Vote for your favorite place to get BBQ around town, especially for Memorial Day, and make sure to tell us in the comments section why it's the best.

Don't go out and eat BBQ often enough to vote. I do BBQ at home like so many thousands of others. But if I was going to judge based on the number of cars that seem to be outside everytime I go by it would have to be Famous Dave's....

I can't comment on the BBQ joints in the South Bay much myself. I'm vegetarian, which makes me wonder: Where do vegetarians go for barbecue? Isn't there a place in Gilroy, Morgan Hill or San Martin that serves barbecued tofu patties or something ;)

I have eaten BBQ all across the U.S. I would have to say that BBQ 152 is the best in a 50 mile radius! You can see the meat being smoked right there. Everything is so fresh. I was very dissapointed in Dickey's. Maybe I've watched too much of Gordon Ramsey, but, they pulled the ribs out of a box wrapped in cellophane. The hot link was served cold. Dave's is a good and reliable restaurant with a lot more choices. But, for all around flavor and hospitality...my vote is for BBQ 152!

Maverick BBQ in Hollister! Hands down best bbq! Family owned and staff is friendly!

Traildust in Morgan Hill should be on the list too.

... and Hot City BBQ in Los Banos is really good too.

Aptos BBQ (same owners/chain as BBQ 152 in Gilroy) is amazing and serves their food on real glass plates, not paper.

Aptos St. Barbeque has been added to the poll (hopefully that's the joint you're referring to). Thanks for the suggestion!
