Rodarte, Halston and Dior, oh my!

Fashion-forward Martin Guevara, 17, looks up to the fashion know-how of icons like Yves Saint Laurent. But this Gilroy native knows how to thrift his own unique look despite his brand name influence.

Gilroy resident Martin Guevara, 17, loves Yves Saint Larent, people watching and hanging with his fashionable clique.

Gilroy Patch caught up with him and asked a few fashion questions.

Gilroy Patch: Can you describe what you’re wearing and where you got everything?

Martin Guevara: I got this shirt at Salvation Army. I got these black jeans at Walmart. I got these shoes at Goodwill in Gilroy. I got this ring, well, my sister made this ring. And I have an earring, but I’m not wearing it. My belt I got at Savers in San Jose.

Guevara: Where do you like to shop?

Patch: My three favorite stores are probably Salvation Army, Black and Brown Boutique and the Savers in San Jose. There is so much good stuff there.

Patch: How would you describe your style in a few words?

Guevara: I would probably say, ‘90s business girl romance.

Patch: How do you feel about the people who shop at the outlets?

Guavara: I think some people need help, and shopping here won’t really do that. They just look for labels and not something that looks good on them. I don’t mind looking at all of these people. It’s funny. I like it.

Patch: Do you have any advice to give them?

Guevara: To stop, and they need to "train your arm." It’s an expression I use, like, learn how to shop—you know, train your arm.

Patch: Do you feel that your piercings add to your look?

Guevara: Oh, I’m taking them out. I just don’t like them any more. Well, I’m taking out my septum piercing, because I want to get my nose pierced. I have a pearl in there right now, though. That’s pretty cool. They do I guess they make me look tougher.

Patch: Do you feel like your hair adds to your look?

Guevara: I hate my hair right now. I’ve had my hair so many different ways. I had cheetah print with a rattail. I had a mullet. I had everything.

Patch: Do you have any style icons?

Guevara: I really like the band Terrorists. It’s a female vocalist, and I try to copy her style.

Patch: Do you friends dress like you?

Guevara: My friends dress similarly to me. They have to. I just feel like we are a little high school clique.

Patch: Do you have any favorite designers?

Guevara: Rodarte, Halston, Yves Saint Laurent. Oh my god, he is legendary. He did work for Dior, and I love Dior!
