Tourist-y Shopper Plays with Proportions

On a normal day, the uniform you can catch Shayna Huth wearing is a crop top and pair of high-waisted jeans.

Shayna Huth, a shopper at the Gilroy Premium Outlets, would buy an oversized sweater at a random gas station in Nebraska before she would shop at Forever 21.

Gilroy Patch caught up with her and asked a few fashion questions.

Gilroy Patch: Can you tell me what you are wearing?

Shayna Huth: Right now I’m wearing high-waisted pants and a crop top and thrifted shoes from . Everything I’m wearing is American Apparel. Except for these shoes, I got them at Salvation Army. They are actually Salvatore Ferragamo, and I got them for $4. They are probably men’s, maybe even golf shoes. I don’t know, but I like them a lot.

Patch: Is this a typical look for you?

Huth:I basically live in these pants; they are my favorite. This belt is from Salvation Army: it’s like a little braided deal. I like the high-waisted shorts, too, sweaters, tucking in tank tops, that type of thing.

Patch: What makes your style different?

Huth: I always look for things that nobody else has. That’s why I like thrifting, because it’s not going to be your regular, generic Forever 21 African prints or feathers. Stuff like that. I look for stuff that is fun and stands out from other people.

Patch: Do you have a favorite new style?

Huth: I like jean material a lot, but I don’t pay attention to New York fashion week. I love jean material. I like denim on denim, and it’s really fun. I also like wearing hoodies with denim jackets so you have the hood coming out.

Patch: What don't you like?

Huth: Honestly any thing from Forever 21; I hate that store. I don’t like supporting sweatshops. I don’t think that clothes should be expensive when they are cheaply made.

Patch: How much money do you spend on clothes?

Huth: I honestly don’t spend that much on clothes. I’m pretty cheap, frugal. When it comes to shopping, I'll spend like $50 at, like, Wasteland, but that’s it.

Patch: How do you feel about accessories?

Huth: I wear my rings and that’s about it, or these earrings. I forget to wear necklaces usually. I don’t know why, though.

Patch: Where do you like to shop?

Huth: When I do shop, which is rare, because like I said I’m frugal, but I like American Apparel, anything in the Haight, Salvation Army, Goodwill, that kind of stuff.

Patch: How would you describe your style in a few words?

Huth: Unique for the vague-est I guess. I don’t know, it’s like, kind of surfer girl, kind of careless. Laid back. I’m happy when I’m comfortable with what I’m wearing.

Patch: Do you have any advice for the fashion-challenged in Gilroy?

Huth: I would tell them to just look for things that stand out from other, like if you find a random sweater from another state, go for it. I always go for touristy stuff from other places.

Patch: Where would you tell them not to shop?

Huth: I don’t like Urban Outfitters. I used to like it, but it’s so expensive for cheaply made stuff. I think people like it because its simple for them to have that kind of style and instead of searching around for that one special item, they just have it picked out for them. It's funny when people don't have originality.
