Reports: Austin Corini Makes 'X Factor' Top 16 in Playback

The boy band featuring the Gilroy teen will appear on the live shows starting next week, some sites suggest.

The 10 million people waiting to find out this year's top 16 contestants on last night's episode of "The X Factor" on Fox were put on the back-burner last night — upended by a playoff baseball game.

Game 3 of the National League Championship Series between the San Francisco Giants and Saint Louis Cardinals was in a rain delay, but resumed play halfway through the east coast feed of the big reveal on "The X Factor." Because of the interruption, Fox aired an episode from last week on the west coast.

Gilroy, although full of Giants fans, cares about the un-aired episode because it contains the fate of Christopher High School student Austin Corini, who auditioned as a solo artist but was put into a band with four other teenage boys called Playback.

Corini and his group advanced to the top 24 last week, and approval from Simon Cowell last night would have sent him to the top 16, which means live performances in front of millions each week.

Because of the baseball snafu, the episode will air next Tuesday at 8 p.m. But, Internet reports suggest good news for Corini and Playback, even without the episode having hit the airwaves.

According to PerezHilton.com, and the X Factor Season 2 Wikipedia page, Corini's Playback did in fact make the top 16. But GossipandGab.com says that Playback's advancement isn't a sure thing. We'll just have to wait until Tuesday to find out for sure.
