Get Out in Gilroy: Sustainable Food, a Play and a Picnic at a Winery

Go to a panel on sustainable food and agriculture, attend the send off of a bike tour, go to a rummage sale or help the Brownell Middle School band by seeing a play...all part of the panorama of options as you Get Out in Gilroy this weekend.

Where/When: , 7400 Monterey St. Friday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Why Go: Learn about food and sustainability issues in south Santa Clara County from a panel of speakers at this joint initiative of the Greenbelt Alliance and the Committee for Green Foothills . There will be a no-host dinner and bar.

Where/When: , 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Why Go: The Almaden Cycle Touring Club hold their 34th annual Tierra Bella Bicycle Tour. Since registration is closed, you can still see them off. Seeing so many people together on bicycles is a terrific thing to behold. The ride starts at Gavilan College. For route description and other information, visit Tierra Bella.  

Pricing: If you are just seeing the riders off, that's free.

Where/When: , 7900 Church St. Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Why Go: This is a joint endeavor of the Girl Scouts of Northern California and St. Mary School. All proceeds will be donated to the Japan Tsunami Relief Fund. All items that are not sold will be donated to HOPE Services.

Where/When: 6675 Redwood Retreat Rd. Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Why Go: This winery is usually NOT open to public. But on the third Saturday of the month it is, making this a good opportunity for you to pack a picnic lunch and head out to the winery for a day outdoors and to sample some wines.

Where/When , 8191 Swanston Lane, Saturday 8 p.m.

Why Go: Pintello has a play that just opened, "Kitchen Witches." And while it is true, it will be playing for a couple of weeks and you can see the play on other nights, if you go this Saturday night, you will help out the Brownell Band program. That's because the theater is donating $5 of every ticket sold to the band. Help keep music in our schools!
