Morgan Hill Groper Arrested in Downtown Gilroy

Carmen Manuel Pena was arrested for grabbing and groping a Gilroy woman on Saturday.

Written by the Gilroy Police Department:

On June 22 at approximately 8:58 p.m. a 40-year-old Gilroy woman was walking on the 7000 Block of Monterey Road. Carmen Manuel Pena, 28, of Morgan Hill then attempted to initiate a conversation with the victim as she walked by.

Pena made verbal advances towards the victim, who ignored Pena and continued to walk away. Pena grabbed the victim from behind as she walked. He held her against her will, groped and fondled her in a sexual manner over her clothing. The victim was able to immediately break free and run to a nearby business to call the police. The victim was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect.

Police Officers arrived within minutes and located Pena in a nearby business. He was identified and arrested. He was not known to the victim and appears to be a random act of aggression.

No other incidents involving similar circumstances where reported to the police department.

Community members are reminded to report any suspicious persons and walk in well-lit areas during the evening hours.
