Gas Prices Skyrocket after Predicted Decrease

One gas station in Gilroy has regular for $4.73 per gallon.

It was just nine days ago that Marketwatch predicted a continued decrease in gas prices.

The cost per gallon was down at about $4.17 for regular in Santa Clara County at the end of September. But things literally changed over night as we reached the tail end of this first week of October.

As of Friday afternoon, the average cost of a regular gallon of Gas in Gilroy is up to $4.61.

The cheapest gallon of gas, as always, is available at Costco at 7251 Camino Arroyo, for $4.16 per gallon. But just 2.9 miles away, at the Chevron station at 7999 Westwood Dr., a gallon will run you $4.73.

But still, patrons of the ultra-expensive Chevron are using their pumps.

The sharp rise has been attributed to decrease supply coming out of California's refineries, including the Chevron refinery in Richmond.
