Map: Gilroy Unemployment Increases December to January

The unemployment rate in Gilroy increased from December's mark of 11.3 percent up to 12.0 percent in January, according to preliminary data released by the state last Friday.

Compared to the rest of the state, Gilroy's unemployment rate is slightly above average. The state of California as a whole also saw a slight increase to 10.4 percent from 10.3 percent in December.

Other parts of southern Santa Clara County saw similar increases, like San Martin (17.8 percent to 18.8 percent), and Morgan Hill (9.7 percent to 10.3 percent).

The figures above, including Gilroy, are not seasonally-adjusted, meaning seasonal temporary work such as holiday employment is not factored into the rate. The seasonally-adjusted figure shows the state as a whole staying the same with a 9.8 percent unemployment figure.

Seasonally-adjusted figures are not available for cities.
