Second Chance Week Begins Saturday
Clear the clutter, lend a hand to the needy and even earn some garage sale cash during Gilroy's 'Second Chance' week.
If the hit television show Hoarders is any indication, many Americans live with more clutter than we'd like. "Second Chance Week 2011," which runs from Saturday through Sept. 18, offers Gilroy residents lots of chances to unload clutter while making a positive impact.
The Official Gilroy Garage Sale Weekend, Saturday-Sunday
You can file your garage sale date and address at Gilroy City Hall, 7351 Rosanna St. A list of all garage sales will be posted at City Hall and at secondchanceweek.com.

Universal Waste Awareness Day, Monday
Here's your chance to get rid of items that don't belong in regular garbage pickup. You can drop off fluorescent light bulbs and tubes at Johnson Lumber, Ace Hardware or Orchard Supply. Drop off old computers, printers or any kind of consumer electronic at Westside Recycling, A&S Metals, Martin's Recycling or Metech Recycling.

"Freecycle" Day, Tuesday
Join the to list items you'd like to give away or request items you need.
Donate a Warm Coat Day, Wednesday
Gently used coats for kids and adults can be dropped off at Gilroy City Hall. The Lions Club will deliver all donated coats to folks who need them.
Second Sight Day, Thursday
If you have prescription glasses that you don't use, drop them off at Gilroy City Hall, and one of many Lions Club volunteers will make the glasses get to those who can't afford eyewear.
