Those Named Dave To Receive a Free Meal Sunday

Famous Dave's BBQ in Gilroy is offering free meals to those that share the same name as its founder tomorrow.

Is your name Dave? Or David or Davie?

On Sunday, anyone with these names will receive a free entrée at Famous Dave’s BBQ at 6925 Camino Arroyo in Gilroy. For those who boast it as their middle name, there’s a consolation prize: a half-priced entrée.

The third annual “Dave’s Day” started with only a handful of restaurants across the U.S. participating, but now 90 percent do, according to media spokesperson Erin Randell.

The event is a celebration of founder “Famous Dave Anderson,” and the restaurant expects to see many of his namesakes tomorrow. After all, Dave is the sixth most popular boy’s name in the U.S.

Those who want to participate need to bring a photo ID. The free entrée can be valued up to $15, and the half-priced entrée at $7.50.

“Our restaurants observe some unusual behavior on this special day,” said General Manager Richard Lara in a press release about the event, “such as babies named Dave showing up for free BBQ, guests who proclaim they are going to change their name to Dave, and multiple generations of ‘Daves’ using it as a celebration for their families."
