By the Numbers: Who Blew it July 4?

Police handed out more citations than last year.

While “” fireworks bearing the state fire marshal’s seal are legal to use in Gilroy from July 1-4, high-powered rockets and explosives can lead to a fee or even a criminal citation.

An “administrative citation” is like a traffic ticket, costing $250. A criminal citation can cost $1,000-$5,000, depending on the kinds of fireworks used. Extremely high-powered explosives like TNT can even result in jail time.

Authorties also confiscated , according to fire investigator Andy Holiday.
