Criminal Acts: Attempted Stabbing

It's been a busy week for the officers of the Gilroy Police Department.

It's been a busy week for the Gilroy Police Department, with suspects evading arrest, an attempted stabbing and burglary consuming the week thus far.

Although more than a handful of incidents have taken place, Patch sifted through the reports and found a few that looked particularly interesting. Check them out, below.

Thursday, Sept. 29.

11:43 p.m. A driver crashed his car into a brick retaining wall and a parked vehicle at 7821 Ponderosa Dr., and then fled the scene, according the the press report. 

The driver called the Gilroy police a short time after the collision and attempted to report the vehicle as stolen but was arrested for a hit and run after witnesses positively identified the person as the driver.

Monday, Sept. 26

6:42 p.m. Police contacted a man around the area of Leavesley Road and Murray Avenue suspected to be under the influence of alcohol.

While responding officers were in the process of detaining him, he swung his fist, subsequently breaking free and then escaping on foot.

Police were able to corner him near a mobile home park, but he began charging officers, who tried to defend themselves with a Taser. However, the suspect was able to pull the probes out of the device and fled again on foot.

The suspect is still outstanding, according to the release.

10:26 a.m. Police attempted to contact a suspect in a vehicle who was seen talking with another individual on Garlic Farm Way. The subject took off running, abandoning the vehicle in the process.

Police later determined that the suspect had a $10,000 warrant, and officers also found a controlled substance in the vehicle.

The suspect is still outstanding.

9:15 a.m. A store clerk was attempting to make a cash deposit in the area of Arroyo Circle when someone suddenly appeared and demanded the money.

When the employee tried to move away, the suspect attempted to stab the individual with a kitchen knife. The victim was able to escape, and the suspect ran away.

Police officers detained a potential suspect after scanning the area, but a field test later determined that it wasn't the same person.

The employee wasn't hurt, and the suspect is still outstanding, according to the release.
