Gilroy Woman Killed in Highway 101 Crash on Sunday

A woman who was killed when her vehicle veered off U.S. Highway 101 and became partially submerged in a creek Sunday morning has been identified as a Gilroy resident, the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office said.

Rosanna Feola, 39, was driving south on 101 at a high rate of speed just north of Cochrane Road at 3:14 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.

Her 2000 Toyota SUV then turned into the center divide, left the highway, smashed through a chain link fence, and fell about 25 feet into Coyote Creek, which runs beneath 101, the CHP said.

The driver's side of the vehicle came to rest in the creek, which was about two feet deep. Feola was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
