9Lives Weekend Wrap-up: Evolution Concert Draws More Than 200 Journey Fans

9Lives weekend show wrap-up

It was another great weekend at 9Lives that we started off early, like we do every week, with our Thursday night competition. This past week, a crowd of just over 70 people came out to experience the fifth installment of the six-week long round of first eliminations.

Week number five was taken by San Jose's Scarlet Spoke, but that's not to say that they had it easy because MeatmalleT and Out For Blood both gave them some solid competition. With just one week remaining of first-round eliminations, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of what the semi-finals will look and sound like. Five deserving bands are locked into the semi-finals, and there’s just one spot remaining.

The weekend stepped it up a notch on Friday night as we all got the chance to put on our dancing shoes and cut it up with Rock Solid. The former finalist's in KFOX's Last Band Standing competition delivered the tunes and the night was a good time for all.

Then, on Saturday, the weekend kicked into high gear as Evolution—the ultimate tribute to Journey took the stage. More than 200 fans packed into 9Lives, with some getting in line 45 minutes before the doors opened just so they could get the best seats in the house. But those chilly Journey fans soon learned that the cold wait was worth every minute, as they listened to Gilroy's Red Glare and Evolution rock 9Lives to its foundation.

Red Glare's opening set was solid and very well received as they powered through many familiar songs for the growing crowd. Then, just after 10 p.m., the curtain opened and Evolution powered through their 90-minute set, performing fan favorites like, “Don't Stop Believin’,” “Wheel in the Sky,” “Stone in Love,” “Escape,” “Lights,” “Faithfully and Many More,” and the classic “Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’.”  It was a night of singing and dancing that left everyone smiling.

This week we will be bringing you even more great music with the sixth week of Battle of the Bands, plus the only 2012 appearance at 9Lives by Shane Dwight. I'll be writing about these shows later in the week, so be sure to check back in for details.

We'll be looking for you at 9Lives!
