Blog: Battle of the Bands Hits Semifinals

Battle of the Bands and informational update

It's been a while but we have been very busy at 9Lives prodiuing shows and keeping the Gilroy music scence alive.  Over the past few months we have hosted a variety of shows including a couple really great tribute bands and the return of the biggest band to come out of Gilroy, Salmon on July 28th.  There's more great shows on tap and you can view our entire lineup at our website, www.9livesclub.com

Our latest Battle of the Bands has been taking place all summer long and now, after six weeks of first round eliminations and 24 bands competing on stage the competition has been narrowed down to just six.  Starting tonight, August 17th and continuing on August 24th we slim the field down to just three bands that will have a chance to compete for a prize package worth more than $2,500.

This week's three bands are Hell I Feel, Vanishing Affair and Petty Therapy.  Each of these bands has a distinct sound and should be considered a strong contender for the overall title.  Tonight one will advance to the September 15th final round where they will face off against one of the bands performing next week.  These bands include Thirty9fingers, February Zero and Solwave.  If you want to know just how good the local music scene is we'd suggest that you come out and check this competition out the next two Friday nights.  Doors open at 8pm and muisc starts at 9pm.

Don't let the outsiders be the only one's that come to see these bands.  An amazing fact about our audiences is that nearly 90% of the people that come to shows at 9Lives are from outside the Gilroy/San Martin/Morgan Hill area.  That's astounding and actually a bit embarrassing!  It's time for the locals to step up and show that there is support for a venue that produces over 160 shows annually, attracts 400 plus acts annually and that has hosted seven GRAMMY award winners and two Rock N Roll Hall of Fame members.

Come on out to 9Lives, support local music and take in a show.  You will love it!

It just don't matter how she dresses, whoo her parents are or aren't. Nobody and I mean Nobody hasRead More the right to rape or force a femsle to have sex with her,and then to make matters worse, they posted pictures of her on facebook ! Better we as a community should be asking, what would possess the young guys to do something like this ! That is why We have Our teenagers and kids passwords or no internet period ! As a parent my heart goes out to het and her parents !

The offensive comment we're discussing shows a complete lack of respect for women that permeates ourRead More culture. That this person actually thought this poor young girl had culpability for her attack is a symptom of our societies disregard for women. I'm actually glad he made the comment so we can look at and discuss the problem.

From one of the interviews I watched online, it seems that many Saratoga High students knew whatRead More happened at the party and had seen the pictures. How is it that arrests did not follow the assault and the suicide for over 6 months? Could it be that the students who knew information about the felony chose to remain silent? I hope that is not the case; we will surely find out as the details of the case are revealed in the media over the next weeks and months. In the meantime lets make sure we are teaching our kids about the responsibility of living in community and caring about others. God forbid that any of the students have to live with the knowledge that they could have prevented the suicide, or with the knowledge that they helped cover up such a heinous crime.
