This week @ 9Lives

What's happening at the best music venue in Gilroy?

It's another Wednesday at and that means that we start prepping for this week's shows.

Battle of the Bands (BOTB) should contine to impress again this Thursday with four more bands looking to advance to the semi-finals in March.

Den of Antiquity has been at 9Lives a couple of times and they are a great group of guys with a cool sound. Same with Section 5150. They competed in last year's BOTB and are coming back for another go at the prize. Illfusion comes to 9Lives for the first time and I don't know much about them or their sound but I'd expect that they will bring a few fans with them from their Salinas base.

Also new to BOTB is local favs 1989.  They have a cool indie vibe and, like the other three bands, should impress our judges.

Friday we are going to bring back our Open Mic Night. It's an opportunity for local musicians to get some time on our stage and show what they can do unplugged (acoustically). The format for Open Mic Night is that we open the doors at 8:00p.m. and anyone interested in performing can sign up at that time.

The total number of performers will determine how long a set they get. Ideally sets are 10-15 minutes each. There is no cover charge for Open Mic Night and we welcome music, spoken word and comedy performers.

Saturday will be a full night with four bands keeping things alive. Returning to 9Lives is San Luis Obisbo's Oh My Land. This band has got a great sound and was really impressive when they first hit our stage. They've got a huge following in the college town and are looking to pick up some new fans in the South County. Show up early so you don't miss these guys.

Fairgrounds will be up next and they have a definite reggae feel to their music.  That will make a nice transistion to The Relief. Another band with Gilroy roots, this band has also been at 9Lives in the last year and they are dialed in and really good.

Headlining the show is 1989, yes the same 1989 that competed on Thursday night in the BOTB competition. Will it be a celebratory set or redemption? Show up and find out for yourself.

Doors for all the shows will open at 8:00 p.m. and music will start each night at 8:30 p.m.  All shows are 21 and over and you can get tickets at the door for $10 or online at www.ninelivesclub.com.  Best though is if you know one of the bands, you should get your tickets from one of them as they can save you money.

See you at 9Lives!
