Coffee with the (new) mayor

Last Coffee with the mayor Al Pinheiro introduces new mayor Don Cage

Last Saturday was the last Coffee with the Mayor for our current mayor Al Penheiro who introduced our new mayor elect Don Cage. Don started out with a great speach that I wish I had recorded because it was so good. I'm glad I endorsed him because I liked his viion for Gilroy.

From what I can tell Mayor Don is vry much like Mayor Al. Kind of a common sense get things done right kind of guy without a lot of political drama. He's also retired which is a plus so he has more time to dedicate to the virtually unpaid and thankless job of being mayor.

I like it that he's a fiscal conservative and that he doesn't look at the reserve fund as something that needs to be spent. In fact he remarked that when he was last mayor that he left a 30 million dollar reserve fund. Because of good fiscal management Gilroy os in much better shape that cities like Vallejo, Stockton, or even San Jose. So he left me optimistic about Gilroy being in good hands.

But then came the big question that was on my mind, Android or iPhone?

Don got a call, pulled out his cell phone, and it wasn't even a smartphone! It was a phone that looked like it was from way back in the 1990s. What? Are you kidding me? So I asked him about it and he gave me some story about that it was good enough for his grandfather so it's god enough for him. (heavilly paraphrasing) Mayor Al has both a smart phone and an iPad that he brings to meetings.

Bottom line - we need to take Mayor Don phone shopping. My recommendation would be the Motorola Droid RAZR M. But he needs something. How can you function in the 21st century without a smartphone?

Mayor Don says he's going to continue Coffee with the Mayor. So far Ilike what I'm seeing.
