Thoughts on city Council and Mayoral Election

My choices for City Council and Mayor.

The first thing I have to say is that I'm really going to miss All Pinheiro as mayor. Although I didn't agree with all his positions on everything he was a very dedicated public servant who put in a lot of time and effort doing a good job for the City of Gilroy. He led Gilroy through the tough times in 2008 and 2009 during the Bush economic collapse and his leadership as well as the city council is the reason Gilroy is doing as wel as we are now. Especially compared to other cities who didn't deal with it right away (San Jose).

Having said that, I know all 3 candidates and I think that there's really no bad choices in those who are running for mayor. But I decided to go with Don Cage. I made my decision based on the Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, not too hot, not too cold. Don was also endorsed by Mayor Pinhero and that had weight for me.

In my opinion Gilroy is actually well run and the decisions they make are reasonably good for government work. I like voting for level headed people who know how to play well with others. I like people who put reality first and who are respectful of others and who have good temperment, judgment, and experience. I like voting for incumbents when they are doing a good job.

So - I voted to reelect Cat Tucker and Perry Woodward. That left me with one more choice of the three remaining candidates. Of those three I have met each in person and I like all of them. And the one I picked I didn't feel strongly enough about to recommend over the others who I also like. So I'm going to keep my third choice a secret.

I am glad to say tat I think everyone running is a good choice and that there's no weird scary people to vote against. I think Gilroy is doing fine and hopefully whoever we elect will keep it that way.
