What Should Gilroy Look For in a New Mayor?

What qualifications should candidates running in this November's mayoral race have in order to fill Al Pinheiro's shoes?

As most of you all know our mayor of Gilroy, Al Pinheiro, is not running for reelection. We now have four candidates who will try to convince us why they should fill his shoes.

I like Al and because of that I wonder if the next mayor will be as good as the one we have. I don't agree with several of his decisions, but what I do like is that he works hard for Gilroy.

He puts in a lot of time being mayor and puts out a lot of effort into doing a good job. Al takes the time to listen to everyone and he is even tempered. He has learned the art of disagreeing without being disagreeable.

As I look at the candidates running I wonder who is going to be the next face of Gilroy. Will they put out the same level of effort? Will they be even tempered? Will they be a leader? Will they be able to play nice with the rest of the members of the city council, despite doing this all for free, since being mayor is an unpaid position.

The above qualities are a few things I'm looking for in a mayor. I hope the other candidates will read this and think it through in their campaign.

Gilroy is doing better than most cities in California and I'd like us to stay on track and continue to make the right decisions and have good leadership.
