Charter Cable TV an Internet Pricing Arbetrary

What Charter Charges to its customers in Gilroy for cable and TV is anyone's guess. It seems to be whatever they can get away with and what you pay depends on whether or not you're paying attention to your bill. I don't know how they get away with this except that they sort of have a monopoly.

I was getting Basic + Extended TV chanels + 100mb of internet for bout $115/month. Then I get a letter telling me that I was going to get a discount. I thought kool, I like that. Next bill my rate increated about $30/month. What?

So I go down there and they explained their rates increased about $70/month but they were discounting that for several months and what was presented as a discount was actually an increase with a second increase scheduled.

So - I said no. I said put it back to the standard internet speed. I didn't need 100mb so bad I was going to pay close to $180/month for it. So they changed it to what I thought was 30mb and the price was around $104.

After a few months one day it seems slower than it should be and found I was only getting 15mb download. So I called them up asking what's going on? They said they had me on some 18mb plan and that plan didn't exist anymore. In truth the plan never existed. They just made that up.

But - they said that the 30mb plan was just 4@/month more so I though sure, for $2 put me on that.

So the next bill I got was $27/month more.

I then go down there again and explain they told me $2. So I'm told yes it was just $2 but that changed eliminated my "loyalty discount" and so it went up to $131.79. I said that was extremely dishonest and reminded them that I could take the billing down to $0. The lady said, "Let me see what I can do."

So - she changed my price to $97.31/month for 30mv + Basic and Extended TV. Where she got that price I have no idea. I think they just make this stuff up on the fly.

Television and the internet are services that should be getting better and costing less as the technology increases exponentially. But because Charter is the only cable company in town prices are going up when they should be going down.

The bottom line is if you want to pay less for Charter and you have to do is show up and complain and they will cut your rate. And if you haven't complained you're probably paying more that you should be.
