Gilroy Death Notices: Animal Advocate, Gardener

We remember the following people with ties to Gilroy who are recently deceased.





Josephine FornerisA resident of Gilroy, Ferneris passed away in her home in Gilroy on July 17 at the age of 84. She was born in Italy. She is survived by her brother, nieces and nephews.

Tomoye (Tomi) Toyofuku FukagawaA longtime resident of Gilroy, Fukagawa died in her home on July 12 at the age of 93. Until her husband's death in 2008, he and Fukagawa ran a fruit and vegetable stand on Pacheco Pass Highway.

Sandra Haywood HillHill died on June 27 at the age of 69 after a short battle with cancer. She and her husband, Wayne H. Hill, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She had a home in Gilroy, at which she maintained a beautiful garden.

Gerry MeyerMeyer was a longtime resident of Gilroy. He was born and raised in San Mateo and was inducted into the 1954 San Mateo High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Rosemary MirkoMirko, resident of Gilroy, was an advocate for animal rights and founded the Town Cats, a non-profit cat shelter in Morgan Hill. She died in her sleep on July 7 at the age of 55 after a difficult battle with cancer as her sister held her hands.
