11-year-old Approached By Suspicious Man on Monterey Road

Driver offered the girl a ride before someone saw them and he took off.

Gilroy Police are looking for a suspicious man driving a minivan after he tried to pick up an 11-year-old girl on Monday, in circumstances similar to another case reported last year.

Police responded to a call on the 9300 block of Monterey Road about 2:15 p.m. Monday. According to reports, a man driving a forest green 2000 Chevy Astro minivan slowed down to talk to an 11-year-old girl walking on the sidewalk.

The man offered the girl a ride but she did not approach the van and continued walking on the sidewalk, according to reports. Another driver saw the situation and drove toward the van, and the man took off.

Another, similar incident on the 8700 block of Hirasaki Court was reported to police in January 2012. Descriptions of the driver and the van matched to Monday's report.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man, between 50 and 60 years old, with sort black hair and a long mustache. He was last seen wearing a black leather jacket and tan pants, according to reports.
