Police Release Photos of Suspect in Bank Robbery

The man remains at large.

Gilroy police recovered part of the money that a man reportedly stole from a Bank of America on Monterey Street this morning, according to police Spokeswoman Amanda Stanford.

Authorities found the money on a VTA bus on its way through Morgan Hill, Stanford said. The amount stolen, the amount recovered and the details of its recovery are undisclosed at this time, she said.

Witnesses described the suspect as an Asian man between 30 to 40 years old and between 5’ 8” and 5’ 10”, the spokeswoman said.

The suspect is still at large. He is clean-shaven and was wearing a grey jacket with black sleeves, a tan hat and blue jeans, Stanford said.

Police stopped 25-year-old Alfonso Cruz shortly after the robbery, suspecting that he was involved. While that turned out not to be the case, he was arrested for narcotics possession and violation of parole, according to the department's press report.
