Criminal Acts: Armed Robbery, High School Brawl and Public Masturbation

The following incidents were supplied by the Gilroy Police Department. The arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Gilroy police responded to an assortment of calls during the last two weeks of February, from car accidents to thefts to graffiti. Here’s a selection from the Gilroy police press report.  

Tuesday, Feb. 28

5:03 p.m.—A 35-year-old woman was cited for embezzlement. The suspect reportedly rang up Walmart gift cards totaling over $300 within three months and never paid for them.

10:44 a.m.—A victim’s ID was used to purchase a vehicle in 2008.

Monday, Feb. 27

3:20 p.m.—A Christopher High School student was assaulted by another student as he was walking home from school. The victim had reportedly commented on the suspect’s relative. The victim was treated at the ER and released.

Sunday, Feb. 26

4:59 p.m.—Officers were notified by police department communications that an in-progress restraining order violation was taking place. Police located the suspect in a vehicle around the area of Johnson Way, and found him to be in possession of a gun and he was subsequently arrested.

12:10 p.m.—A male victim was reportedly waiting for a cab outside a bar on Monterey street, when he was approached by two females who offered him a ride home. The victim agreed, and was led to a nearby parking lot where an unknown male subject was awaiting and robbed him.

Saturday, Feb. 25

11:52 p.m.—A 22-year-old male was observed walking down the sidewalk around the area of Hanna and Sixth streets with a “Road Work Ahead” sign. The suspect then lead police on a foot pursuit, and was detained. He was arrested for petty theft, resisting arrest and two outstanding warrants.

11:30 p.m.—Unknown suspects broke off the top portion of a washer machine, which contained the coin box. The matching washer top and coin box were later recovered.

4 p.m.—Unknown suspects broke into five travel trailers located on Monterey Street, and stole electronics worth a combined $1,967. The unknown suspect(s) also caused over $700 in damage from the broken exterior door locks.

10:30 a.m.—A unknown suspect was walking down Ronan Avenue with his penis exposed masturbating. A victim observed the suspect, and ran into the bushes to hide. The suspect approached the victim soon after to ask about her dog, and then pushed her to the ground. The victim sustained minor injuries to her arm, and the suspect is still outstanding.

10:06 a.m.—A resident on Lincoln Court awoke and found a van parked in his driveway. The van was later determined to be stolen out of Hollister.

Friday, Feb. 24

6:50 p.m.—An unknown suspected entered a business on Wayland Lane and used a knife to demand money from the cashier. During the robbery the suspect took $100 in cash and fled from the scene. There were no suspects when the report was filed with police. 

6:33 p.m.—Unknown suspects picked the locks of cases containing sunglasses at a business located on Arroyo Circle. The suspects stole over $2,000 in sunglasses while an accomplice distracted the clerk.

9:15 a.m.—A suspect was arrested on Lewis Street after police found him to be in possession of a concealed, stainless steel dagger.

5:40 a.m.—A resident of Santa Maria Court was reported missing after he was dropped off at the Caltrain station and never returned home. The missing person was reportedly making suicide threats about jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge or jumping in front of a train.

Thursday, Feb. 23

3:58 p.m.—Gilroy police and fire personnel responded to a welfare check about an unattended infant who was in a car parked on First Street. The infant was reportedly crying, flailing, sweaty and in distress. The case has been forward to the District Attorney’s Office.

Friday, Feb. 17

3:30 p.m.—A teaching establishment located on Calle Del Rey was burglarized. A laptop, DVD players, stuffed animals and food were stolen. In total the stolen goods amount to over $800. There were no suspects or witnesses when the report was filed.
