Criminal Acts: Brutal Assault, Arson and more

A man was shot at, and punched while sitting in his vehicle on Chestnut Street, Tuesday.

It's been a busy week for the Gilroy Police Department, with everything from assault to possession of psychoactive drugs. Acts of burglary, and brutal assaults also consumed the week.

Although more than a handful of incidents have taken place, Patch sifted through the reports and found a few that looked particularly dangerous. Check them out, below.

Thursday, Nov. 10

12:26 p.m.—Ricardo Melendez Jr., 25, was arrested for allegedly possessing psilocybin, which is a psychoactive agent found in magic mushrooms.

Wednesday, Nov. 9

1:51 p.m.—Jorge Alberto Herrera-Sanchez was arrested after allegedly assaulting a victim in an incident of domestic violence. The victim sustained visible injuries.

Tuesday, Nov. 8

3:00 p.m.—An unknown suspect forced entry into a locked vehicle on East Street and stole several items. The suspect had reportedly entered the vehicle after forcing open the driver’s-side window, and stole the car stereo, a wallet, a Rubbermaid cooler, and the victim's Social Security Card.

1:17 p.m.—A victim was assaulted while sitting in his parked vehicle on Chestnut Street. The suspects approached the victim from behind the vehicle, one on the driver’s side and the other on the passenger’s side. The suspect on the passenger-side of the vehicle shot at the victim, who also endured punches from the other suspect on the driver’s side, the Gilroy Police Department's press report stated.

12:01 a.m.—An apartment on Monterey Street was red tagged by the Fire Marshall after residents of the apartment allegedly set several walls and a rug on fire.

Monday, Nov. 7

6:00 p.m.—A commercial burglary occurred on East Tenth Street. Unknown suspects entered the building after breaking a window, and stole a 40 inch flat-screen TV worth $500.
