Criminal Acts: Counterfeit Travelers Checks, Meth and Wife Beating

The following incidents were supplied by the Gilroy Police Department. The arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Gilroy police responded to an assortment of calls from Thursday through Sunday, from domestic violence to narcotics possession to petty theft. Here’s a selection from the latest press report.

Sunday, Jan. 8
4:41 p.m.—A male entered a bakery on First Street,  gathered some baked goods and left the store without paying. Fortunately, the baked goods were partially recovered.

1:11 p.m.—A suspect attempted to resist arrest after being contacted by police around the area of West Ninth and Rosanna streets. He was taken into custody.

1:32 a.m.—An adult male was arrested for domestic violence on IOOF Avenue.

Saturday, Jan. 7
11:06 p.m.—A 55-year-old male was arrested for being in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia around the area of El Cerrito Way and Wren Avenue.

11 p.m.—A 28-year-old man was arrested for vandalism, and for challenging a victim to fight on Monte Bello Drive.

4:54 p.m.—A 56-year-old man was contacted around the area of Lewis and Alexander streets, and was found to be in possession of narcotics after police conducted a body search. The man was on parole.

10 a.m.—Unknown suspects entered a residence on Del Rio through the side garage door, and stole a camera and $225 cash from the master bedroom.

6:24 a.m.—A vehicle was towed after its driver and the passenger left their vehicle in the driveway of a residence around the area of East Street and East Seventh Street and fled.

Friday, Jan. 6
10:25 p.m.—A baggie containing narcotics was found on the street around the area of Church and Third streets.

3:43 p.m.—Unknown suspect(s) opened a Capital One credit card in the victim’s name and made $1,000 worth of charges. There are no witnesses or suspects at this time.

3:15 p.m.—A black, 2004 BMW was stolen on First Street.

1:50 p.m.—A suspect used counterfeit travelers checks to purchase around $500 worth of various clothes.

6:45 a.m.—The suspect pulled the victim by the hair, chocked her and forced her to stay in a bedroom against her will as she was trying to call out for help. The assault happened on Rogers Lane.

1:30 a.m.—A victim on Mantelli Drive awoke to the sounds of someone tampering with his vehicle outside of the residence. The victim found the suspect inside his vehicle, and saw him take off. The victim attempted to catch the suspect, but was unsuccessful.

12:05 a.m.—A 21-year-old man used his belt to beat his wife and slapped her across the face. The assault happened on Church Street.

Thursday, Jan. 5
10:16 p.m.—A woman was taken to the hospital after she was pulled over for a traffic violation around the area of Church and Fourth Street. Police determined that she was dangerously over the legal alcohol limit.

10:11 p.m.—A 42-year-old man was arrested around the area of Church and W. Seventh Street after police found him to be in possession of methamphetamine.

3:35 p.m.—A suspect obtained the victim’s personal information and made purchases without the victim’s consent.

12:25  p.m.—A case of fraud was reported after a suspect used the victim’s debit card to make purchases in Los Angeles.

12:05 a.m.—A male was arrested on Church Street after he was determined to be in possession of methamphetamine.
