Criminal Acts: Domestic Violence, Animal Bites and Laundry Machine Burglary

The following incidents were supplied by the Gilroy Police Department for July 5-9. The arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Missing Juvenile

  • 3:15 a.m.—A female minor ran away from her home on Martiri Court after an argument with her mother.

Burglary

  • 4:00 p.m.—An unknown suspect(s) took two coin operated washer machines from a community laundry room at a property on El Cerrito Way. The value of the washers is estimated at $1,600.           
  • 8:14 a.m.—An unknown suspect(s) robbed a commercial property on Casey Street. They made off with $4,100 in goods, including $2,000 in painting supplies and a $1,100 Honda generator.
  • 4:30 a.m.—A residence on the 1100 block Monte Bello Drive was burglarized. An unknown number of suspects entered the residence, possibly through the front door, and stole a Dell laptop computer and two wallets.

Assault

  • 11:00 a.m.—The suspect and victim live together at a property on Lilly Avenue. They have a child together. Both were involved in a physical altercation. The case has been sent to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office for review.
  • 10:30 a.m.—During an argument between two juvenile residents at 290 IOOF Avenue, one began assaulting the other by kicking and punching their person. The victim sustained minor injuries.
  • 12:54 a.m.—A 53-year-old man was arrested on Welburn Avenue for battery and a parole hold.

Spousal Assault

  • 10:17 p.m.—A 32-year-old man and 21-year-old woman were involved in physical altercations with one another on two separate incidents at a property on Spencer Court. They are married and have a child together. Both displayed visible injuries and were placed under arrest for domestic battery. Their child has been taken into protective custody.
  • 9:28 p.m.—A 35-year-old man was arrested for domestic violence on Chestnut Street.
  • 1:31 a.m.—A boyfriend and girlfriend were involved in a domestic dispute at a property on E Eight Street.

Vandalism

  • 11:30 a.m.—A vehicle on Forest Street had both right side tires slashed and the word “slut” carved into one of its doors. Damage is estimated at $700.
  • 12:24 a.m.—A known suspect broke the front windshield of the victim’s car during an argument on Chestnut Street and Lewis Street. The damage to the vehicle is estimated at $400.00.

Graffiti

  • 1:09 a.m.—Two juveniles were contacted at Los Arroyos Park and were subsequently arrested for vandalism and curfew violations.

Animal Bite

  • 12:00 p.m.—A woman was walking her dogs on Heritage Way when they all were attacked by a house cat.

Weapons

  • 8:27 p.m.—A 20-year-old man was arrested after officers stopped his vehicle on Chestnut Street and Murray Avenue for having an obstructed windshield. A passenger in the vehicle was found to be on probation open to search. During a pat search of the arrestee, officers found a switchblade knife. Two baseball bats were also found in the trunk of the car. No other baseball equipment was located in the car.
  • 3:05 p.m.—An adult male was arrested for possession of an illegal knife.

Stolen Vehicle

  • 1:00 a.m.—A 1999 dark green Honda Accord with paper plates reading “Primo Auto Sales” was taken from the 500 block of IOOF Avenue. Police believe the vehicle was stolen between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Theft

  • 7:41 p.m.—A 19-year-old female was arrested for shoplifting at a business on Camino Arroyo. She was attempting to take a liter of soda, valued at 93 cents, a canister of Pringles, valued at $1.50 and bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey, valued at $16.97.

Domestic Disturbance

  • 10:59 p.m.—The 44-year-old arrestee violated a peaceful contact domestic violence restraining order when he got into an argument with a victim on First Street. He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

Resisting Arrest

  • 6:15 p.m.—A 36-year-old man was arrested after he refused to obey verbal commands to sit on the curb line during the investigation of several suspects drinking alcohol in the parking lot of Las Animas Park. He swallowed an unknown type of narcotics and attempted to flee from officers, despite officers’ orders for him to remain seated. He, along with another male suspect, were taken into custody for resisting arrest and other charges.
  • 12:34 a.m.—A 32-year-old woman was arrested for an outstanding warrant and for providing false identification to a police officer. She was arrested at Lewis Street and Rogers Lane.

Possession

  • 3:50 p.m.—A 19-year-old man was cited on Kern Avenue for possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • 11:02 a.m.—A 24-year-old man was arrested at W Tenth Street for possession of a hypodermic needle.

Trespassing

  • 9:18 p.m.—Three male suspects, aging in range between 34 and 38 years old, and a 38-year-old woman were contacted by officers to the rear of 110 Old Gilroy Street. They had set up camp and were living there. The property has “No Trespassing” postings.

Auto Burglary

  • 11:00 p.m.—An unknown number of suspects burglarized a vehicle on Monterey Street and took a purse that was left sitting on a seat. They entered the vehicle by smashing a window. The cost of window repair is estimated at $250 and the value of the purse and its contents is estimated at $40.
  • 11:30 a.m.—An unknown number of suspects entered a locked vehicle on Arroyo Circle and stole a shopping back with a kids bike jersey and socks. The value of the stolen items is estimated at $76.86. There are no suspects, evidence or witnesses at this time.
  • 9:00 a.m.—An unknown number of suspects entered a locked vehicle on Kelton Drive and stole the car stereo, a sleeping mat and sleeping bag. The value of the stolen items is estimated at $380. There are no suspects at this time.

DUI

  • 1:22 a.m.—A male arrestee was seen leaving the scene of a vehicle accident on Stewart Drive in which he was at fault. The arrestee was located in the area driving the listed vehicle with two flat front tires, caused by the accident. After a vehicle enforcement stop was initiated, the arrestee was subsequently arrested on suspicion of DUI.
