Criminal Acts: Stabbing, Parakeet Snatching, and a Feisty Juvenile

A suspect wearing a ski mask and sporting a handgun also threatened to shoot three victims on Nov. 17.

It's been a busy week for the Gilroy Police Department, with countless acts of residential and commercial burglaries, and weapon possession. 

Although more than a handful of incidents have taken place, Patch sifted through the reports and found a few that looked particularly interesting. Check them out, below.

Saturday, Nov. 19

7:12 p.m.—A suspect was arrested on Lincoln Court for being in possession of narcotics. Police had put the suspect on a 72-hour mental hold, and discovered a methamphetamine pipe and marijuana on the subject after a pat-down search. The case is being forwarded to the distract attorney’s office for review.

8:40 a.m.—A victim’s vehicle was broken into on San Ysidro Avenue. The unknown suspects broke the side window of the vehicle and stole two bags of merchandise worth a combined $440. There are no suspects or witnesses at this time.

5:58 a.m—A 44-year-old Sunnyvale man was stabbed once in the leg around the area of Leavesley Road. The victim was uncooperative and refused to provide information about the suspect to responding officers, said Sgt. Chad Gallacinao of the Gilroy Police Department. The victim was transported to a Bay Area hospital, and the incident is not under investigation.

Friday, Nov. 18

7:32 p.m.—A 12-year-old female juvenile punched a counselor in the face. The juvenile was cited, and the case was sent to juvenile probation for review.

7:29 p.m.—Carolynn Martinez, 41, was arrested on suspicion of drug possession. She was driving around the area of E. Eighth and Forest streets when she was pulled over during a pedestrian stop, and was found to be in possession of a meth-smoking pipe.

Thursday, Nov. 17

8:30 p.m.—Three victims were walking northbound on Monterey Street, and were confronted by an unknown subject wearing a ski mask as they passed the Bonessa Bros. RV dealer.

The suspect had walked out from between the RVs and presented a handgun, and reportedly told the victims to stop, threatening to shoot one of them if they didn’t obey. One of the victims then ran off, and the other two were left behind. The suspect then told the two remaining victims to leave.

6:30 p.m.—A male victim was asleep in Forest Street Park when he awoke to two suspects stealing his belongings. The suspects escaped on foot with the victims backpack, clothing and hygienic items.

12:11 p.m.—A witness entered the bedroom of a residence on Church Street and saw a suspect in the victim’s room. The suspect then jumped out the window and fled the scene.

7 a.m.—Unknown suspects jumped a fence into the rear yard of a residence located on Fairview Drive, and stole a birdcage containing 10 Parakeets. The white birdcage and Parakeets are worth a combined $400.

Wednesday, Nov. 16

12 p.m.—An unknown suspect used a business account to make a Verizon Wireless payment for $528.23. There are no suspects at this time.
