Criminal Acts: Stolen Gumball Machine, Walmart Robbery and Christmas-Day Burglaries

The following incidents were supplied by the Gilroy Police Department. The arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Gilroy police responded to an assortment of calls over the weekend, from car accidents to thefts to assault. Here’s a selection from the latest press report.

Sunday, Dec. 25
1 p.m.—A 20-year-old male was arrested for robbing and vandalizing the property of a residence on Gaunt Avenue. He caused almost $700 in damages.

10:42 a.m.—A suspect fled from a vehicle as the car was about to enter a traffic enforcement stop. The suspect was detained, and police determined he was driving without a license and on active parole. The incident is currently under investigation.

2:27 a.m.—A hit and run occurred on W. Sixth Street. The unknown suspect was driving a gray 2003, Volkswagen Jetta.

Saturday, Dec. 24
12:44 p.m.—Unknown suspect(s) burglarized a residence on the 9100 block of El Verano Way. They entered the residence through the side garage door and stole electronics and jewelry amounting to $11,663.

7:20 a.m.—A victim was injured after he walked-in on a 23-year-old male ransacking his house on Monte Bello Drive. As the suspect went to flee, he swung the victim out of the way and caused injury to the victim. The suspect was arrested.

6:30 a.m.—A male victim left his car unattended in the parking lot of his apartment complex with the engine running, and returned to find his car stolen. The car is a 1995, red Dodge Ram.

Thursday, Dec. 23
8 p.m.—A suspect used force to rob the customer service counter at the Super Walmart on Camino Arroyo. The suspect escaped with almost $4,000 and is still outstanding.

4:04 p.m.—Suspects stole a gumball vending machine valued at $470 from an establishment on Monterey Street, and then fled from the location in a vehicle. The suspects were later contacted, detained and arrested, and the gumball machine was returned home safely.
