Criminal Acts: Thefts and Vandalism

The following incidents were supplied by the Gilroy Police Department. The arrest information does not indicate convictions.

Gilroy police responded to an assortment of calls from Thursday through Sunday, from car accidents to thefts to graffiti. Here’s a selection from the latest press report.  

Sunday, Dec. 11

10:55 p.m.—A 20-year-old man was arrested after a road rage incident on Leavesley Road and Murray Avenue. He’s accused of pointing a weapon, possibly a handgun, at someone from his blue Ford Taurus.

6:52 p.m.—A youth is accused of hitting another youth, causing minor injuries, on IOOF Avenue.

5:54 p.m.—A 33-year-old was arrested for being drunk in public on Wren Avenue.

3:02 a.m.—A 25-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of an illegal stimulant on Wayland Lane.

1:46 a.m.—A 39-year-old man was seen driving over the double-solid yellow lines on Monterey Street just north of Sixth. He continued north at a high speed and swerved to pass a taxi. While he was parked north of Fifth Street, officers questioned him, found cocaine and arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.

1:20 a.m.—Two men were questioned after a reported fight on Monterey and West Seventh streets. One ended up with a DUI and the other with an arrest for resisting/obstructing officers.

1:05 a.m.—A man was seen riding his bicycle without a light in the dark. Officers stopped him and found him with a knife and a toy gun and arrested him on suspicion of weapons possession.

Saturday, Dec. 10

10:35 p.m.—A 46-year-old man was arrested for a noise disturbance on Ronan Avenue.

10:31 p.m.—An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of methamphetamine possession on Fourth and Hanna streets.

7 p.m.—The owner of a flatbed trailer reported it stolen on Monterey Street.

4:30 p.m.—The owner of a blue 1995 Kia reported that someone had stolen stereo equipment and tools from the unlocked car on Church Street.

3:52 p.m.—A 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of reckless driving, possession of a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine and probation violation. He was booked into Santa Clara County Jail.

2:44 p.m.—Someone on First Street reported that calling cards worth $1,300 were stolen.

Noon—A resident on Princevalle Street reported a home burglary. Listed as missing was a laptop, Nintendo game console, $300 worth of Wii games and two necklaces.

1 a.m.—Someone reportedly broke the passenger window of a 2003 blue Ford Focus on East and Eighth streets and stole purses, wallets, portable media players and makeup.

12:33 a.m.—A youth was found intoxicated outside after curfew.

Friday, Dec. 9

9:42 p.m.—During a traffic stop, a passenger was found in possession of marijuana. He was cited and released.

9:08 p.m.—A semiautomatic rifle with 30 rounds was found in a bush in front of 600 E. Eighth St.

7:47 p.m.—A 39-year-old man was arrested for a probation violation and found with marijuana and drug paraphernalia during a drug search.

7:34 p.m.—Two people, ages 33 and 58, were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart. They are accused of taking without paying for toothpaste, depilatories, a Spiderman horn and vitamins.

7 p.m.—A black 1998 Buick Regal was reported stolen on Gaunt Avenue.

6:22 p.m.—Three cars on Gavilan Court were involved in an accident in which DUI was suspected.

6 p.m.—The owner of a white Toyota reported online that the pickup was vandalized on Bosco Lane and Welburn Avenue.

3:20 p.m.—Four cars were involved in an accident with injuries at Church and Second streets.

3:01 p.m.—A 1991 Toyota Camry was reported stolen on Ortega Circle.

12:31 a.m.—A youth was arrested on Monterey Streets for a curfew violation and found to be in possession of graffiti implements.

11:16 a.m.—A 28-year-old woman was stopped for driving a BMW with paper plates in the 7400 block of Rogers Lane. She was arrested and taken into custody on charges of false impersonation, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.

Thursday, Dec. 8

8:10 p.m.—Two cars collided on Princevalle Street near 10th Street, but no one was injured.

6:10 p.m.—Someone broke the lock on a sliding door to enter a home on Cumberland Drive and steal a laptop, iPod Touch, camera, jewelry and keys.

3:42 p.m.—A resident on Orchard Drive reported a home burglary in which someone pried open both garage doors and stole jewelry and coins.

12:30 p.m.—Graffiti was found on the back of Calvary Chapel Church on Tomkins Court. Windows and glass doors were marked with green pen and etched with an unknown instrument. Damage was reported at $2,400.

10:11 a.m.—An 18-year-old was arrested on suspicion of narcotics possession on the Gilroy High School campus.

9:21 a.m.—A resident on Church Street told police someone had cut the lock to the pool storage room and taken a leaf blower, chemical pool testing kit and box of plastic gloves.

8:46 a.m.—The rear license plate was reported missing from a red Kawasaki motorcycle on Zuni Lane.

7:39 a.m.—Two people, ages 23 and 45, were arrested for violating their probation during a probation search, and one was additionally arrested on suspicion drug possession.

Wednesday, Dec. 7

10 p.m.—A black 1995 Honda Civic was reported stolen from 400 Adams Court.

Ken Simmons, I don't know who made you privy to the information that you have, but you should haveRead More checked your sources. The information you have posted here is inaccurate and misleading. Yes, it is due to budgets cuts and recommendations of the country fiscal advisor that all Library Clerk II positions have been eliminated, but note that it is all. And there was never a decision to pack up the books and put them in storage. On the contrary, the collection will stay intact, and will be covered and protected the same way it is every summer to prevent sun and dust damage. No parents have come forward to volunteer to run the library. Not one! And the decisions that have been made by the district are exactly that, the District's - the unions are not the problem here. If you want to stir up drama, try sticking to the truth, and try using it to make a difference and set things right for our students!

I information I read in the Gilroy Dispatch is that all the part time library clerks will be laidRead More off. So there will be no staff to run the library. Luigi probably has no storage for all those books so they will be left on the shelves. This recommendation was made by the County Fiscal Advisor, Nimrat Johal. She said this won't impact the students or the classroom. Really???!!!

That this person actually thought this poor young girl had culpability for her attack is a symptom of our societies disregard for women. I'm actually glad he made the comment so we can look at and discuss the problem.

From one of the interviews I watched online, it seems that many Saratoga High students knew whatRead More happened at the party and had seen the pictures. How is it that arrests did not follow the assault and the suicide for over 6 months? Could it be that the students who knew information about the felony chose to remain silent? I hope that is not the case; we will surely find out as the details of the case are revealed in the media over the next weeks and months. In the meantime lets make sure we are teaching our kids about the responsibility of living in community and caring about others. God forbid that any of the students have to live with the knowledge that they could have prevented the suicide, or with the knowledge that they helped cover up such a heinous crime.
