Detectives Investigate Kidnapping Claim on Medical Marijuana Field

Four to six men allegedly tied up other men while extracting their marijuana plants Thursday morning.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a Morgan Hill kidnapping incident on Thursday after reports came in of an early morning incident in the area of Hale Avenue and Live Oak Avenue.

At 7:15 a.m., deputies responded to a call from three adult males that four to six Hispanic men between the ages of approximately 22 and 45 arrived on their property and starting extracting marijuana plants.

"The suspects were interrupted by two of the victims who came outside of the house and noticed the suspects on their property," Sgt. Jose Cardoza said in a prepared statement. "The suspects brandished firearms at the two victims and proceeded to tie the victims up in an attempt to restrict their movements."

The third victim then arrived, causing the suspects to flee southbound on Hale Avenue. The victims described the suspects' cars as a 2000s model light colored Toyota Sequoia, 2000s model brown colored Chevrolet Suburban and a black Volvo sedan with tinted windows and black rims.

Sheriff's detectives are following up to make sure that the marijuana plants are lawful pursuant to medical marijuana laws, Cardoza said.
