The bust happened last week on Highway 101 north of Gilroy.

The Gilroy Police Department's drug dog helped the California Highway Patrol bust a suspected cocaine trafficker last week, authorities reported.

A 31-year-old San Jose man was arrested on Highway 101 north of Gilroy city limits on Aug. 21, police said.

The arrest came after police K9 "Pharaoh" alerted on the presence of a controlled substance within the vehicle and officers found 5 kilograms of cocaine in the vehicle. The drugs are worth more than $120,000 on the street, authorities said.

Gamliel Duran Avelar was arrested on suspicion of multiple narcotic-related charges, police said.
