DUI Checkpoint Planned This Weekend

It's too early for the Fourth of July and late for Memorial weekend, but the enforcement comes as part of a grant to the Gilroy Police Department.

Gilroy police will operate a driving under the influence and driver’s license checkpoint late Saturday night through Sunday morning this week, according to a press release from the department.

The checkpoint will begin at 8 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Leavesley Road, between Monterey Street and Murray Avenue, police said. It will conclude the following day at 2:30 a.m.

The enforcement comes as part of a state grant from the Office of Traffic Safety that funded the deployment of an additional traffic officer and additional equipment for the department.
