DUI Crackdown Ends With 482 Arrests

More DUI operations will be set up throughout the county for Super Bowl Sunday in February and for St. Patrick's Day in March.

Law enforcement agencies in Santa Clara County were out in full force New Year's Day weekend to wrap up its 17-day DUI crackdown that resulted in 482 reported arrests, down from the 557 that were reported last year, according to Santa Clara County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jose Cardoza.

Over the weekend, DUI checkpoints were set up all over the county looking to nab drivers who had too much to drink as part of the county's "Avoid the 13" campaign which started Dec. 16 and ran through midnight Jan.1.

Acording to Cardoza, funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
