Gilroy DUI Checkpoint Results: 30 Citations and Arrests
The police department held a successful checkpoint on April 19.
Gilroy's DUI checkpoint on the night of April 19 yielded the following results:
- 550 cars checked
- 1 DUI arrest
- 1 felony warrant arrest
- 20 citations for unlicensed drivers
- 8 citations for drivers with suspended licenses
With success like this, more checkpoints are planned for the rest of the year, the Gilroy Police Department said in a Nixle alert.
"The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes," police said. "Research shows that crashes involving alcohol drop by an average of 20 percent when well-publicized checkpoints are conducted often enough."
