Gilroy Man Confesses to Hit-And-Run That Injured Woman

The collision occurred on Friday and the man went to the Gilroy Police Department to confess on Saturday.

A 34-year-old Gilroy man has revealed to police his involvement in a hit-and-run collision that left a woman seriously hurt last Friday, police said today.

The hit-and-run was reported around 9:55 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Rosanna and 10th streets. Responding officers found a 24-year-old Gilroy woman suffering from serious injuries and learned that the car involved had fled, according to Gilroy police.

The woman was transported to a hospital where she was reported in serious condition, police said. On Friday, police described the suspect vehicle as a champagne-colored SUV missing the driver's side mirror and that it was last seen traveling west on 10th Street.

On Saturday, a man walked into the lobby of the Gilroy Police Department to give a statement describing his responsibility for the hit-and-run collision, Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said.

The man was not arrested and the case has been submitted to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office, Espinoza said. Police did not identify the man or offer further details about his statement, except that he provided a description of the vehicle he said he was driving at the time of the accident.

The woman continues to recover from her injuries, police said.
