UPDATE: Gilroy Resident Shot in Parking Lot, Possible Gang Connection

Police are investigating the attempted murder of a 21-year old Hispanic male who was shot in a Monte Bello Drive parking lot on Sunday afternoon.

Updated at 8:05 p.m.—The victim, a resident of Gilroy, is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to Sgt. Robert Locke-Paddon of the GPD. The area of residence for the suspect is still unknown, as are his whereabouts. Locke-Paddon said police have not located the weapon used in the shooting either.

A 21-year-old Hispanic male was shot in the parking lot of a complex located at 985 Monte Bello Dr. on Sunday afternoon.
 
Police were initially dispatched to the area after receiving a report of a man with a gun at 1:34 p.m., and received an additional call as they were en route about a subject who was shot in the parking lot, Sgt. Jason Kadluboski of the wrote in a media release.

Upon arrival, police located the gunshot victim who was then transferred to a Bay Area trauma center. His condition is unknown at this time, and his identity has yet to be released.

The unknown suspect is believed to be a Hispanic male between the ages of 20 and 25 years old. The GPD’s Anti-Crime Team is currently investigating whether the shooting is gang related, Kadluboski wrote.
