Man Arrested in Gilroy For Attempted Murder, Carjacking, Robbery Wednesday Morning

Gilroy Police say suspect is responsible for a string of South Bay crimes.

Gilroy Police officers arrested a man as he fled from an attempted carjacking and robbery Wednesday morning, capping what police called a "tri-county crime spree" around Santa Clara, San Benito and Monterey counties.

The 40-year old man, whose name has not been released, was arrested after the victim called police to report the crime, said Sgt. Greg Flippo with Gilroy Police Department. The carjacking and robbery started about 9:52 a.m., he said.

According to Gilroy Police reports, the man was arrested for attempted murder, two counts of attempted carjacking, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and making a terrorist threat.

Flippo declined to provide many details on the case as the investigation continues. However, he said the man's arrest should put an end to a "tri-county crime spree," Flippo said.
