Man Claims Violent Robbery, Police Investigate

A 19-year-old told the Gilroy Police Department that he was bound and robbed on Monterey Street over the weekend, but his story is being investigated.

The Gilroy Police Department is investigating a claim made by a 19-year-old man that he was bound and robbed by four men early Saturday morning.

According to the alleged victm, at 3:30 a.m., the men broke down the door where he was on Monterey Street, bound him, took his wallet, cell phone, suitcase with clothes and keys to his vehicle and drove away. 

Gilroy Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said that the man did not report the crime until around noon on Saturday and that police are working to corroborate his story.

The man was not injured in the incident, Gallacinao said. He declined to release other details of the man's claim while the incident is still under investigation including how the alleged victim escaped.

According to the police report, the stolen items and damage total $1,220 ($350 cell phone, $300 cash, $20 wallet, $500 suitcase with clothes, $50 door). The value of the man's stolen car was not itemized on the report.
