Man Dead in Double Shooting in Gilroy Wednesday Night

Police are investigating a homicide that occurred at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday.

Police are investigating a shooting that killed one person and left another person critically injured in Gilroy Wednesday night.

At about 10:53 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 7300 block of Chestnut Street, near East Seventh Street.

The first officer arrived at the scene within 39 seconds of the call being dispatched, police said.

Emergency medical personnel and police initiated lifesaving efforts on the first victim, a 30-year-old Gilroy resident. He was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

A second victim, a 37-year-old Gilroy resident, sustained critical injuries and was transported to a local trauma center. He is expected to survive his injuries, according to police.

The motive for this crime has not been determined, police said.

Investigators are processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses in hopes of generating a variety of leads.

The deceased victim's identity is being withheld until proper notifications are made.

No suspects have been detained, according to police.
