Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injury After Gunmen Open Fire on Lewis Street Garage

Gilroy police are investigating the crime as a gang-related attempted murder.

A group of gunmen reportedly opened fire on a Lewis Street garage Wednesday night, critically injuring one of the men inside, according to a press release from the Gilroy Police Department.

Police received a report of the shooting around 8:30 p.m., and upon arrival discovered the 22-year-old victim “lying inside the garage. He was suffering from upper-body trauma,” according to the release and police spokeswoman Amanda Stanford.

Authorities flew the victim to a nearby hospital, where he “has been temporarily stabilized. However, his injuries are life threatening,” police said.

The man is still hospitalized in critical condition, spokeswoman Stanford said.

Numerous witnesses have come forward, and police are investigating the incident as a gang-related attempted murder, according to the release.
