Contributed by the Gilroy Police Department:
The Gilroy Police Department has become aware of growing concerns regarding narcotics use/sales and alcohol related violations occurring at the Miller Park. This park is directly across the street from Brownell Academy Middle School.
The Anti-Crime Team initiated a directed enforcement operation at the park in the afternoon of Feb. 22.
Numerous violations were observed and several individuals were arrested and or issued citations for their crimes. Some of these include violating a restraining order and the mentioned alcohol violations. Detectives witnessed a narcotics transaction whereby one offender was selling suspected narcotics from his vehicle to patrons of the park. At least one of these individuals was a convicted felon.
Richard St. Cloud, 54, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on marijuana sales charges.
The apparent disregard for the proximity of the school and children playing in the park is of great concern. The Gilroy Police Department will continue to focus on this and other problem areas in an effort to offer city services and facilities that our community members may patronize without fear and exposure to this type of element.
The violators were advised that this is not the last of these types of operations and they can expect proactive enforcement of all laws in this area.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Anti-Crime Team at 408-846-0350.
