Motorcyclist Dies in Highway Crash Near Gilroy Outlets

The rider was pronounced dead on scene.

A motorcyclist died after an accident on southbound Highway 101 in Gilroy Friday night, according to one of the responding agencies, the Gilroy Fire Department.

A witness said that the man swerved left from the slow lane and across the three-lane highway, colliding with the median near the Leavesley Avenue exit, said Gilroy Firefighter/Paramedic Heinz Maibaum. The accident was reported at 10:37 p.m.

The victim was found separated from the motorcycle and unconscious, he said. A crew from CalFire also responded and was the first to arrive and provide medical aid. The patient was declared dead on scene.

The cause of the accident is currently unknown, said Maibaum. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner and California Highway Patrol will be investigating the incident.
