A motorist died Sunday when a vehicle slammed into a fence on the 101 Freeway in Gilroy but it was unclear if the crash caused mortal injuries.
The Santa Clara County Coroner was called to the scene of the crash on the northbound side near Cochrane Road, about 1:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A caller reported seeing the vehicle drift over to the center divider, then to the right hand shoulder, where it struck a fence.
About 20 feet of fence was damaged on the shoulder, the CHP reported.
